Napo can protect your pet from tooth to tail
We know that finding pet insurance that covers dental can feel like pulling teeth. And even the providers that include pet dental coverage, often don’t include cover for illness.
That’s why we’re offering comprehensive pet insurance that covers dental work for your furry friends.
All Napo policies include dental cover for accidents and illness. We also provide cover for procedures that most insurers miss out on, like a veterinary scale and polish, or extractions. We’ll cover them if they have been recommended by your vet to treat illness.
Is dental covered under pet insurance?
Many pet insurers don't offer dental. Even pet insurance with dental cover may only protect your pet’s teeth in cases of accidents, not illness.
At Napo, we think comprehensive cover should include dental. All our policies include up to £2000 dental cover for accidents and illness.
As long as your pet has had a dental checkup in the last 12 months, we’ll cover treatment recommended by a vet. As long as treatment is given by a vet within 3 months, and it isn't for a pre-existing condition or crown.
So whether you’re looking for dog insurance with dental, or cat insurance with dental, we’ve got you covered.
We've got you covered for:
Accident and illness
If your pet gets poorly, we’ll cover vet treatment. That includes tests, surgeries, hospitalisation, medication, and more.
Dental work
We’re one of the only insurers to cover dental illnesses, including tartar removal and extractions.
Complementary treatment
Such as physiotherapy to help mend a torn muscle, or treatment to relieve general aches, pains, and stiffness.
Behavioural treatment
To stop bad habits like excessive grooming, or helping pets feel less anxious when you’re not there.
Travel and holidays
We include travel cover in case your pet needs to see a vet abroad, or you have to extend or cut a trip short because of your pet.
Emergency boarding
Covering the cost of putting your pet into a kennel or cattery if you need to go into hospital and can’t look after them.
Finding a missing pet
If your pet goes missing, we’ll pay advertising costs and the reward.
Third party liability
If your dog injures someone or damages property and a claim is made against you (but these breeds aren't covered).

I was a little skeptical to insure my dogs with a new Company, however I am so pleased that I did. My dog encountered a problem which Napo dealt with in a very professional and efficient manner, always being extremely courteous and answering mail and questions very quickly, therefore I have no hesitation in recommending them, indeed I already have to two of my Canine Friends,.

Really good value for great level of cover, also like that you have access to an online vet 24/7 at no additional cost or detriment to your policy. So far so good.

Right, So when I took my policy out there was no reviews about claims so here is mine. My Mini Dachshund managed to hoover up some raisins in the woods on our walk. It looked like somebody had scattered trail mix on the floor and raisins being blended in with the mud I didn't see them! (Which is annoying when you do everything you can to make sure your dog is safe and well). Instantly googled for advice and called my vet who wanted him in within the hour for a sickness injection, they also gave him some activated charcoal and advised bloods in a couple of days. Obviously I agreed as I just wanted to make sure he was OK! The next day I put my claim in and heard back instantly saying they would request my vet notes. Annoyingly it took my vets over two weeks to send these but that is no fault of Napo. However what was excellent was during these two weeks I was emailed every two days and although there was no progress from my vet I was still informed. Finally my vets sent what they needed to, on 10th March I was notified Napo would now work on my claim. Today (25th March) I've woken up to my money back. I honestly couldn't fault the service especially being kept in the loop every two days when there was no progress from my vet. Much better than just submitting a claim and hearing nothing then having to chase it up myself. I gave 4 stars because I am unsure if my policy quote will rise next year with now claiming, time will tell, I will update on this when the time comes but incase anybody else is out there searching all corners of the Internet for decent pet insurance company! Definitely reccomend taking a policy out.

Frequently asked questions
Why is dental care important for pets?
Dental care is important for your pet's overall health and wellbeing.
Firstly, our pets use their mouths like we use our hands. They’ll lick, chew, or nibble their way through the world. Not only that, but strong and healthy teeth are vital for your pet to be able to eat!
We all know how rotten life is with toothache. And no dog or cat will want to eat or play with a sore mouth.
But our furry friends can’t tell us when they’re in pain. They also have to eat to survive. So they will usually try to keep eating, even if their teeth or mouth hurts. That’s why it’s important to have your pet’s dental health checked regularly by a vet.
Not only that, but severe dental disease can lead to other illnesses. This makes looking after your pet’s teeth and gums essential to protect their overall health.
Because we know dental health is vital for your pet’s overall health, we think it’s important to cover it. That’s why all Napo pet insurance policies include dental cover.
Is dental covered under pet insurance?
Whether dental is covered by your pet insurance depends on your provider. Many pet insurers don't offer dental, or they may only protect your pet’s teeth in cases of accidents, not illness.
At Napo, dental is covered under all of our pet insurance. All our policies include dental cover for accidents and illness.
So as long as your pet has had a dental checkup in the last 12 months, we’ll cover treatment recommended by a vet. As long as vet treatment is given within 3 months, and it isn't for a pre-existing condition or a crown.
Which pet insurance includes dental?
All Napo pet insurance includes dental cover as standard. The amount you can claim for will depend on the policy you have.
We also ask that vet treatment is given within 3 months, and it isn't for a pre-existing condition or a crown. To be eligible for dental cover, there’s no extra cost. We just ask that your pet has an annual dental checkup. This could be part of their annual health check, and helps spot problems early. we just ask that a vet gives treatments within 3 months of recommendation and that it is not for a pre-existing condition or a crown.
Why doesn't pet insurance cover dental?
Some pet insurers won’t cover dental work, and the reason isn't always clear.
Regardless of why other insurers won’t cover dental, Napo does include dental cover as standard. So no matter what policy you buy, you’ll be able to protect your pet’s teeth against accidents and illness.
Does pet insurance cover dental extractions?
Whether or not your insurance includes extractions will depend on your provider and the policy you buy. If you’re with Napo, your pet insurance covers dental extractions due to accident or illness.
Does pet insurance include dental cleaning?
Many insurers won’t cover professional teeth cleaning, or a scale and polish. But all Napo pet insurance policies do include dental cleaning. As long as it is recommended and performed by a vet to treat an illness of the teeth and gums.
Just a heads up, a veterinary scale and polish must be performed under anaesthetic. Because of this, it can cost anywhere between £250 to £450.
Will pet insurance cover dental surgery?
We can’t speak for all pet insurance, because every provider is different and the policies they offer vary. Here at Napo, we do offer pet insurance that covers dental surgery.
To be more specific, we will cover dental treatment that’s due to an accident or illness that’s not a pre-existing condition or a crown. As long as it is recommended and performed by a vet. That includes tartar removal, root canals, and extractions.
We just ask that your pet has had a dental check in the last 12 months. And that when a vet prescribes a treatment, it’s given within 3 months of that recommendation. (You’d not want to be left with a toothache for longer!)

Is dog dental insurance worth it?
Having dog insurance that covers dental is worth it because good dental health will help to keep your pup happy and healthy in general. It also means sore teeth and gums won’t get in the way of how your pup feels, eats, or plays. And if your pup does ever need dental treatment, your dog dental insurance will help to pay for their treatment.
After all, dental treatments can be costly, (like any vet bills.) For example, removing one of your dog’s teeth can cost between £300 and £1000 in vet fees.
If you own a dog, you’ll know better than anyone that a dog uses their mouth for everything, not just eating. But 87% of dogs are affected by dental disease by age 3. Dental disease can lead to inflammation, sore mouths, severe toothache, tooth loss, and even “osteomyelitis”, which is damage or infection to the jaw bone.We think it’s always worth protecting your pet’s teeth. Dental disease, like any painful condition, can impact your pooch’s quality of life. Plus, teeth don’t heal themselves if they’re damaged. That’s why we think it’s essential that all of our dog insurance policies include dental cover. (All our cat insurance policies include dental too!)
Is cat dental insurance worth it?
Cat dental insurance is worth it to protect your cat's health and happiness. Cats use their mouths all the time to eat, play, and groom themselves. It’s worth protecting their teeth and oral health with cat insurance with dental cover, so they can do all of these essential cat behaviours without toothache.
85% of cats over 3 years old suffer from dental problems. But treatment can be expensive, such as £300 for a cat’s scale and polish. Or up to £800 for an extraction.
All Napo cat insurance policies all provide cat dental insurance at no extra cost.
